Jim Varney became one of the most loved actors and comedians in the 1980′s and 1990′s most famously for his role as Ernest P. Worrell.
Jim Varney was born on June 15, 1949 in Lexington Kentucky the only son in four children of Louise and James Varney. When Varney was a child he loved to entertain his family and showed an amazing ability to memorize and recite large passages of books and long poems. When Varney was 8 years old his mother decided to put him into a children’ s theater program.
He grew a massive passion for theater when he was in his teens and won many drama competitions. In 1980 after doing odd jobs in coffee shops and local theaters he was featured in his first commercial, playing the character Earnest. These commercials he played in became so popular that they sparking a TV series and many movies. His role in Earnest Goes to Camp got Varney nominated for the “Worst New Star” award, but he then won an Emmy the next year.
Jim Varney sadly died on February 10, 2000 of lung cancer, but he will always be an important and much loved comedian and actor to many.
