Ernest P. Worrell became a household icon with a face and a line of natural childish humor. Jim Varney famously recognized for his original face contortions and voice routine for many commercials in the 1980′s. His enormous appeal for all ages proves that his bumbling light heartiness was down to earth. Soon after doing many marketing endeavors for various services and products his legendary line “knowhatimean” became a household word.
The entertaining and popular movies that followed became his character Ernest who brought laughs for most any age. Ernest was always one step behind the crowd. He knew how to relate to the audience by looking in the camera eyes wide open using very expressive facial maneuvers and a simple funny line. Only Ernest could deliver a line like, “How ’bout a bumper sandwich, Boogerlips?” from the movie “Ernest Scared Stupid.” Earnest rarely accomplished anything without getting hurt and he would say, “Oww! I’m not dreaming, this really hurts!” Only Ernest could get away with a statement like that and make it whimsical while penetrating the viewers watching. His humorous charm could melt the heart from his line, “You know, I don’t tell many people this, but Christmas is just about my favorite time. Ever since I was a little kid, I always felt like it was my own personal holiday.” from the movie “Ernest Saves Christmas.” The face of Earnest will live on while his movies become cult classics.
